It is small enough to learn the brewing process without wasting large amounts of coffee on failed batches, and it produces enough concentrate for one strong cup or two smaller servings. Once you understand the brewing process, the 6-cup (180ml) is the most versatile everyday size for two to three people.

How do you make great coffee with a moka pot?

The key steps are: use medium-fine grind (finer than drip, coarser than espresso), fill the bottom chamber with cold water to just below the safety valve, fill the filter basket evenly without tamping, screw the top on firmly, and heat on medium-low heat with the lid open. Listen for the gurgling — when it starts, immediately remove from heat and run the base under cold water to stop extraction. Pour immediately.

Can you use a moka pot on an induction cooktop?

Only moka pots with ferromagnetic stainless steel bodies work on induction hobs. Standard aluminium moka pots (like the classic Bialetti Moka Express) do not work on induction unless the base has a ferromagnetic plate bonded to it. The Bialetti Venus, Bialetti Brikka, and Cuisinox Roma are all induction-compatible. Always check the product specifications before buying if you have an induction cooktop.

How do you clean a moka pot without ruining it?

Never use dish soap inside the moka pot boiler — it leaves residue that affects flavour. Instead, rinse all parts with hot water after each use and allow them to air dry completely. Once a month, run a full brewing cycle with plain water to flush the internal chambers. Do not submerge the pot in water or put it in a dishwasher. Replace the rubber gasket and filter every 6–12 months depending on usage.
